Context of the community in which he works
Currently, the Nuevos Horizontes Social Centre hosts 140 children and adolescents in vulnerable situations and has a wide impact on the community. It is a place recognised by the inhabitants and it has taken on the role of a space for prevention, service and help in the face of the different needs and problems that arise at a personal, family and community level.
Its goals
In the Social Centre, the aim is to re-establish broken family ties, to promote the integral well-being of the family while respecting its cultural dimension, to offer psychological care, to promote physical and mental well-being, to stimulate and reactivate the family economy and to accompany the reality of the different families present on a daily basis, in a personalised manner.
Main activities carried out
In the 18 years of its history, the Social Centre has developed various activities aimed mainly at serving and accompanying the children and adolescents of the district. In its facilities, daily activities are carried out, such as school support and spaces for dialogue; recreational workshops, painting, sports, etc. are also organised. Services include health care with a medical consultancy and psychological and psycho-pedagogical support and workshops for the prevention of child sexual abuse and domestic violence, as well as support workshops for women.
Volunteers profile
No specific knowledge is required, although it is important that volunteers are willing to work with children and young people in vulnerable situations, who in several cases may also have violent behaviour. Volunteers have to be empathetic, patient and responsible.
Tasks to be done
Design and development of workshops.
Participation in the different activities and projects that the social centre develops. In the case of health professionals, making their contribution in the spaces intended for that purpose (nursing, care, etc.)
